Our Story

Founded in 2014, the Institute for Nonprofit Innovation and Excellence (INIE) was created to strengthen the Big Bend nonprofit sector. Surveys and community reports revealed what we all knew: nonprofits were doing more with less, struggling with funding cuts, and lacking access to training and shared resources. INIE’s mission was simple but powerful: to build the capacity and leadership of nonprofits so they can achieve greater impact, accountability, and sustainability. 

INIE remains rooted in its founding mission, while evolving to meet today’s challenges with new tools, partnerships, and opportunities. 

Our Transition

In April 2025, INIE transitioned to Tallahassee State College. This move secured long-term sustainability, expanded resources for nonprofits, and strengthened INIE’s impact through partnership with TSC’s Performance Innovation Institute (PII).

Through this integration: 

  • INIE’s reach has expanded beyond Leon County to include Wakulla and Gadsden counties. 

  • Nonprofits are now connected with professional resources, credentialing pathways, and business collaborators that raise the standard of practice. 

  • New bridges have been built across nonprofit, business, and government sectors to support a stronger regional ecosystem.
